Dispatch & Freight Management
Truck Dispatch Services for Owner-Operators
Truck dispatch services help owner-operators find and arrange freight and handle the communication and paperwork around it. What is included varies widely between companies, so compare services in writing, not just the price.

What dispatch and freight-management support can include
- Freight opportunity research on third-party load boards and with licensed brokers
- Broker communication on the carrier's behalf
- Negotiating proposed rates, subject to the carrier's approval
- Receiving and reviewing rate confirmations
- Organizing carrier packets, BOLs, PODs and other load paperwork
- Load-related communication while a load is in progress
- Planning support for lanes and upcoming loads
Service offerings differ between dispatch companies. Some include paperwork and invoicing; others only search for loads. Confirm the details in writing.
What a dispatcher is not
A dispatcher working for a carrier is different from a freight broker. Brokers arrange transportation between shippers and carriers under their own broker authority. A carrier's dispatcher works with brokers on the carrier's behalf. The carrier remains responsible for its own operations and decides which loads to accept.
Questions to ask before choosing a dispatcher
- How are you paid — a percentage of gross, a flat fee, or something else?
- Are there setup, paperwork, technology or cancellation fees?
- Who makes the final decision on whether to accept a load?
- How are rate confirmations, BOLs and PODs handled and stored?
- How can I cancel, and how much notice is required?
- What account access are you requesting (load boards, email, factoring, ELD), and why?
- Which services are actually included in the fee, in writing?

How DHC's model works
Direct Haul Connect is not a freight broker. DHC helps carriers identify freight opportunities through third-party load boards and licensed freight brokers, communicate with brokers, negotiate proposed rates and manage load paperwork. The carrier keeps control over whether to accept or reject any load.
DHC charges a flat weekly rate: $350 per week for a semi truck and $300 per week for a 26-foot box truck, with no percentage dispatch fee.
